Pricing, in plain terms
The private chef cost in Breckenridge with The Mobile Chef starts from $79 per person. That figure covers a four-course dinner cooked and served in the home, condo or ski house where you are staying, plus the food, sales tax and the clean-up afterward. This page is for groups planning a ski trip or a celebration in Summit County who want to know what they are paying for before they call, and what makes one quote different from another.
How much is a private chef in Breckenridge? The cost per person
Menu pricing begins at $79 per person. The final number for your group depends on three things: the menu you choose, the size of your group and the style of service. We have been cooking for visitors in Summit County since 1998, and we specialize in smaller groups, so the quote is built around your table rather than a banquet hall.
Because the starting figure is per person, you can work out a rough budget quickly. Multiply your adult headcount by the starting price, halve it for children under 12, and you have a sensible starting point for a conversation with us. The full menus and pricing show the dishes each menu is built from.
What the price per person includes
Some quotes you see online list a per-person figure and then add groceries, tax or clean-up on top. Ours does not work that way. Pricing includes:
- Food costs. We shop for the ingredients, so there is no separate grocery bill.
- Meal preparation. The cooking happens on site, in your kitchen.
- Serving. Dinner is brought to the table course by course.
- Sales tax. It is already in the number.
- Clean-up. The kitchen is left clean when we go.
Every menu has four courses: a starter, soup or salad, an entrée and dessert. A typical evening might open with stuffed mushrooms (sausage, crab or spinach), move to a dinner salad with gorgonzola and walnuts, then grilled pork tenderloin au jus with roasted red potatoes and a sautéed vegetable medley, and finish with a fruit tart. The choice of menu is one of the things that shapes your quote.
Children, servers and private chef gratuity
Two rules affect the total for families and larger groups, and it is better to know them up front.
Children under 12 are half price. If you are bringing young kids on a ski week, they are charged at half the adult per-person rate. That makes in-home dinners a practical option for families, and the kids are free to leave the table when they are done while the adults linger.
For groups of 6 or more, a server’s fee may apply and a gratuity may be added. Bigger tables often need a second pair of hands to keep courses moving and plates cleared, so a server may join the chef. When that is the case, the server’s fee and any gratuity are discussed with you when we quote, not sprung on you at the end of the night.
That answers the question many people ask about private chef gratuity: for groups of 6 or more it may be added to the bill, and we will tell you when we quote. For smaller groups, ask us when you book and we will explain how it works for your dinner.
What moves a private chef quote up or down
The starting price is the same for everyone. What changes from one group to the next falls into three areas.
- The menu. Each menu on our menus page is built from different dishes. A beef fillet with asparagus is a different shopping list from chicken piccata or Greek avgolemono soup. Contemporary, Mediterranean, family menus and Thai dishes are all on offer.
- The size of your group. Pricing is per person, so headcount sets the base. Larger groups may also bring in a server, as above.
- The style of service. A plated, four-course dinner is one style. A relaxed spread of platters for a party is another. If you are not sure which suits your evening, our page on private chef service in Breckenridge covers the options.
Dietary needs are part of the conversation too. We cook gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes and work around food allergies; the guide to gluten-free and allergy-friendly private chef dining explains how that is handled in the kitchen.
Multi-day private chef service
Many groups book more than one night. A ski week is the classic case: everyone comes off the mountain tired, nobody wants to cook, and nobody wants to drive into town for dinner again. Each dinner is priced per person in the same way, from the same starting figure.
Clients in the Breckenridge and Frisco areas who book multi-day service can also add breakfast and lunch. If you want a chef for most of your stay, read about our multi-day private chef service in Breckenridge, then call us with your dates.
Private chef vs restaurant cost
The honest comparison is not just the number on the bill. It is what the evening costs you in time, effort and money once everything is added up. The table below compares an in-home private chef dinner with taking the same group out to a restaurant, without putting invented prices on either.
| Factor | Private chef at home | Restaurant |
|---|---|---|
| What the price covers | Food, preparation, serving, sales tax, clean-up | Food and service, with tax and tip added after |
| Wine and cocktails | You pour your own | Bought by the glass or bottle |
| Getting there | No driving, no parking | Drive, park or arrange rides |
| Seating a group | Your table, your time | Can be hard in peak season |
| Children | Under 12 half price, free to roam | Kids sit through the meal |
| Courses | Four, set in advance | Ordered at the table |
| Afterward | Kitchen left clean, you are already home | Drive back in the dark |
The biggest saving for most groups is the drinks. Dining in lets you pour your own wine or cocktails, which is where a restaurant bill for a group tends to climb. Add the time it takes to get a group moving in the same direction, and the in-home dinner usually wins on value as well as comfort. If you are still weighing it up, the guide on whether a private chef is worth it on a ski trip looks at the question from the vacation side.
